About Kate
Writer, Teacher, Cynophilist
The Writer
Born and raised in eastern North Carolina, Kate has worked in the field of education for over 20 years as a teacher, reading specialist, and literacy coach. She’s always had a passion for animals (especially dogs) and writing (especially poetry) so it is only natural that these two finally come together in her debut book, Growing Up with Love. Through her rhythmic, fun-to-read, yet meaningful stories, Kate hopes to encourage children near and far to choose love and kindness above all else.
The Teacher
Kate always knew she wanted to be a teacher. As a child, she’d play “teacher” to her class of doll babies and stuffed animals. After graduating from Appalachian State University with a Master’s in Elementary Education and Reading Education, she was “teacher” to students of all ages (and all 100% live). She specialized in early literacy development, having been trained both as a Reading Recovery teacher and Literacy Collaborative Coach. She now enjoys sharing her learning with others.
The Cynophilist
(cy·noph·i·list | sə̇ˈnäf ə lə̇st) : a dog fancier : one that is favorably disposed toward dogs
Kate has never met a dog she didn’t love. Big dogs, little dogs, she loves them all…especially if they are strays and in need of a home. Over the years she has been truly blessed with the best (Brandy, Bo, Maggie, Hopper, Barley, and Baler to name a few). She truly believes that dogs, in so many ways, are experts in unconditional love and can teach us all how to live better lives, if we simply pay attention. She plans to pay it forward by donating a portion of all proceeds to reputable animal rescue and advocacy groups. If you are interested in helping, please consider supporting as well.
